School-based Apprenticeships
A school-based apprenticeship is a way to start your career whilst still
finishing secondary school. You work one day per week as an apprentice (on
the job training) and go to TAFE one day per week (off the job training).
You get paid for any time that you spend working. The training that you
get will be credited towards a full-time apprenticeship once you finish
school.
Benefits
- One of the advantages of beginning a school-based
apprenticeship is that you start your career whilst completing your senior
studies.
- Once you have completed your school studies you then
continue on as a fulltime apprentice, so when all your friends are looking for
work, you have the security of knowing that you already have a job.
- Your school contact will work with you and your parents to
negotiate 2 days out of school every week.
The
Process
- You will have a recruitment interview with the school
liaison officer at your school.
- You will then be assisted with an industry placement with
one of our current Host employers where you will gain exposure to the industry
of your choice.
- Industry placement can be either 1 day per week or a 1 week
block, this is negotiated with your school contact and yourself and the school
liaison officer from All Trades Queensland.
- Once you have completed your Industry Placement, you then
decide if this is the trade you would like to apply for.
- Your application is then activated in the system and when a
school-based vacancy becomes available you will be contacted.
